Обязательный курс: Strategy (B820)If you register for the MBA you must take this as your first MBA course after completing the University's Professional Diploma in Management or Foundations of senior management. This compulsory course helps you to develop a better understanding of what business strategy entails, both theoretically and in practice. You will improve your strategic thinking skills and develop your own view of your role in making strategy in the organization. This course provides the framework of strategic issues on which the other MBA courses build. Although the importance of knowledge to organizations has been recognized for many years, knowledge management represents a refocusing of managerial thought and practice. Managing knowledge takes a broad view of the subject, covering communications, sense-making, information management, measurement of intellectual capital, intellectual property, intangible assets, learning, knowledge creation and innovation, human resources for innovation, and building knowledge management capability. Knowledge is explored in group, organizational and inter-organizational contexts. The course both uses and critically explores the technologies and media that support knowledge processes, including groupware, interactive cd-roms and the internet. It also covers managing culture, learning and diversity in organizations, and evaluating the implications and outcomes of HR strategies in an international context. Taking up issues of complexity in marketing, the course expands into a broad discussion of complexity theory and its application to marketing strategy. We discuss external change drivers, with units on economics and scenario planning, and deal with advanced marketing concepts and techniques, emphasizing relationship marketing and brand strategy and management. There are electives on sector-specific marketing topics and a substantial section on international marketing, one of the main sources of complexity. The first section makes you aware of the forces that shape the international environment, examining the reasoning behind internationalization, then dealing with social science topics including culture, political arrangements, economic systems, geographical features, technology and infrastructures. We suggest that the diversity we have been discussing creates dilemmas for managers.
